A complete and total fabrication’: Hugh Jackman’s representatives deny magazine report he is a ‘mentor’ to Heath Ledger’s daughter Matilda, 11, and sees her as ‘honourary family’
He’s the hunky Australian actor who appears alongside Michelle Williams in the upcoming film, The Greatest Showman.
And now it has been claimed Hugh Jackman has become a ‘mentor’ to Michelle and the late Heath Ledger’s 11-year-old daughter, Matilda.
According to an article published in Woman’s Day on Monday, young Matilda has become ‘an honourary member’ of the Jackman family, after befriending Hugh’s own daughter, Ava, 12.
However, a spokesperson for the Wolverine star strongly denied the report, telling Daily Mail Australia on Monday: ‘It is a complete and total fabrication’. ‘Ava has grown close to Matilda and, being around the same age, they pretend they’re twins,’ a source reportedly told Woman’s Day.They added: ‘Hugh has almost come to see her [Matilda] as a second daughter.’
Matilda’s father, Heath Ledger, passed away from an accidental prescription drug overdose in 2008, when she was just two years old.Meanwhile, Hugh has been married to wife Deborra-Lee Furness for 21 years, and the couple share son Oscar, 17, in addition to Ava.
Woman’s Day claims that Michelle, who has previously starred opposite Hugh in the 2008 thriller Deception, ‘is happy Matilda has found a friend in Ava and the Jackman family’.
The magazine quotes the insider as saying that young Matilda has stayed over at Hugh and Deborra-Lee’s multi-million dollar New York apartment on a number of occasions.
She has also reportedly joined the family for ‘movie nights and family dinners’.
And Matilda may be hoping to follow in her famous parents’ footsteps, with a reported interest in ‘acting and singing’, which Woman’s Day alleges has been encouraged by Hugh.
Meanwhile, Hugh and Michelle’s highly-anticipated film, The Greatest Showman, which co-stars Zac Efron, is due to hit cinemas on Boxing Day.
